ALERT: Soybean rust found in Vermilion Parish, LA, commercial field

9/22/2006 10:25 a.m. CDT -- Soybean rust was found in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, bringing that state's count to 15 positive parishes and the U.S. total to 67 counties and parishes in eight states.

According to today's Louisiana commentary on www.sbrusa.net, Asian soybean rust was found in Vermilion Parish for the first time. Rust was detected in a commercial soybean field. The soybeans are Group Vs in the R6 stage.

The incidence and severity levels are moderate at this point, the report said. Soybean harvesting is about 70 percent complete in Louisiana, with some late-planted beans in the mid- to late-range reproductive stages.
