Before-and-after photos bring soybean rust damage into focus

10/01/2005 -- These photos may be worth 2,000 words, given the stark contrast between the once-healthy sentinel plot and the same plot fewer than three months later, ravaged by soybean rust.

Don Hershman, plant pathologist with the University of Kentucky, passed along these photos from Florida that "speak for themselves," taken by X.B. Yang, Iowa State University plant pathologist. In the first photo, the person on the left is not identified. On the right is Carrie Harmon, plant pathology coordinator for the Southern Plant Diagnostic Network and University of Florida faculty member.
