  • 10/6 -- Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi find more soybean rust. In AL, Chambers & Tallapossa counties 10/6; LA parishes Bossier, Concordia, Rapides & West Baton Rouge 10/6; MS counties Noxubee 10/5 and Benton, Tippah & Union 10/4. Altamira in Tamaulipas, Mexico, is positive again for rust. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 158 in 10 U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 10/3 -- First rust of '08 in TN: Shelby County, 10/2. 10/3, these AL counties: Chilton, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Marengo, Perry; in MS: Lafayette & Yalobusha; in NC: Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin & Barnwell. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 148 in 10 U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 10/2 -- Ten more MS counties with rust; two more in AL. In Mississippi: Calhoun, Chickasaw, Clay, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Pearl River, Pike and Pontotoc, all 10/2. In Alabama: Monroe & Sumter, 10/2. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 133 in nine U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 10/2 -- ALERT: North Carolina finds first soybean rust of year: 10/1 in a soybean sentinel plot in Scotland County. Rust also in Seminole County, GA. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 121 in nine U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 10/1 -- New rust in AL, LA, GA: Lee County, AL, Tattnall & Ware counties in GA, 9/30; Evangeline & St. Landry parishes in LA, 10/1. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 119 in eight U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 9/29 -- Another 11 new rust finds in last two days: Berrien & Dougherty counties in GA, 9/29; Franklin, Madison, Ouchita, Pointe Coupee & St. John the Baptists parishes in LA, 9/29; in De Soto & Tate counties in MS, 9/28; and Darlington & Lexington counties in SC, 9/28. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 108 in eight U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 9/26 -- Eleven new rust finds. 9/26 in JeffDavis County, GA; 9/25 in 3 MS counties -- Amite, Lincoln & Tunica; 9/24 in Dallas, Macon counties, AL; Morehouse County, LA; Allendale, Colleton counties, SC; and in two Mexican municipalities: Pánuco in Veracruz-Llave, and Gómez Farías in Tamaulipas. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 97 in eight U.S. states; eight municipalities in four Mexican states.

  • 9/22 -- New soybean rust in Louisiana, Mexico. Soybean rust has been found in Tamuín in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí and in four Louisiana parishes: East Carroll, Tangipahoa (recurrence), Tensas & West Carroll, all 9/22. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 94 in eight U.S. states; six municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/21 -- First soybean rust of the year in South Carolina: Dorchester County 9/19 & Hampton County, 9/20. Also in DeKalb County, AL, 9/20. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 91 in eight U.S. states -- AL 12, AR 11, FL 22, GA 13, LA 4, MS 22, SC 2, TX 5; six municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/19 -- More than two dozen new soybean rust counties in past two days: -- Arkansas, Lee, Monroe, Prairie & Woodruff in AR; Stewart & Sumter in GA; Carroll, Coahoma, Grenada, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie & Webster in MS. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 88 in seven U.S. states; six municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/17 -- More rust in AL, AR, GA & MS. Clarke & Washington counties in AL; Jefferson & Lincoln in AR; Thomas in GA; Hinds & Jefferson in MS. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 74 in seven U.S. states; six municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/15 -- Soybean rust in 10 more counties: on 9/12 -- Lowndes County, GA; Escambia County, AL; Phillips County, AR; Leflore & Sunflower counties, MS. On 9/11, Yazoo & George counties in MS. On 9/10, Colquitt County, GA, and Okaloosa County, FL; 9/9 in Chicot County, AR. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 67 in seven U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/9 -- Five new Mississippi counties with soybean rust: Holmes, Humphreys, Sharkey, Warren and Washington, 9/8, in commercial soybean fields. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 57 in seven U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/8 -- First soybean rust of the year in 3 Arkansas counties: Ashley, Desha and Drew, all in soybean fields in SE AR. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 52 in seven U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/8 -- More soybean rust in GA, MS & FL: in Holmes County, FL, 9/8; Issaquena County, MS, 9/6; Coffee and Toombs counties, GA, 9/5. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 49 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/5 -- Three Alabama counties have soybean rust: Elmore (soybean) and Bullock and Pike counties (kudzu). Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 45 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/4 -- Soybean rust was reported in two FL counties 9/3, Santa Rosa (soybean) and Suwannee (kudzu). Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 42 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 9/2 -- Two more GA counties have rust: Appling (8/29) and Cook (8/30; reported 9/2). Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 40 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/28 -- Soybean rust found in two AL counties, one LA parish. All three finds were on kudzu: 8/27 in Covington & Crenshaw counties in AL and 8/26 in East Baton Rouge Parish in LA. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 38 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/25 -- New soybean rust on soybeans in Georgia and Texas: County in GA 8/22 and Willacy County in TX 8/24. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 35 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/21 -- Mississippi and Florida report more rust. Rust found on soybean leaf in Jackson County, MS, 8/20, and on a kudzu leaf in Wilkinson County, MS, 8/21. Also rust in Washington County, FL, 8/20. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 33 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/19 -- Georgia finds more soybean rust: in soybeans on private research farm in Tift County, 8/18. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 30 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/18 -- Soybean rust moves W. in FL Panhandle, GA: rust found in GA and FL -- on kudzu in Grady County in GA, just over the FL line, 8/11; and in soybean sentinel plot in Escambia County, FL, 8/13. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 29 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 8/2 -- Soybean rust found in production field in Texas, in Cameron County, 7/28. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 27 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/26 -- Soybean rust in soybean sentinel plot in Baldwin County, AL, 7/25. State officials tell nearby growers with beans in reproductive stages to consider spraying fungicides. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 26 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/22 -- A 16th county in FL has soybean rust: Madison, on soybeans in sentinel plot N. of Gainesville on the GA border. Columbia County is also positive again, this time on soybeans, vs. kudzu. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 25 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/21 -- Soybean rust moves west in FL Panhandle; first of year found in Jackson, Walton counties, in soybean sentinel plots. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 24 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/19 -- Soybean rust found again in St. Mary Parish, LA on kudzu, 7/17, in same place where it was seen in January, but not since. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 22 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/9 -- First soybean rust in GA and two new FL counties 7/8: on soybeans in research plot in Brooks County, GA, and on kudzu in Hamilton and Columbia counties, FL. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 22 in six U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 7/6 -- More soybean rust in two FL counties 7/2: on kudzu in Jefferson County, E. of Tallahassee; and in a soybean sentinel plot in Gadsden County -- the first positive plot in FL in 2008. Both counties had rust earlier in the year. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 19 in five U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 6/23 -- Taylor County, FL, has first rust of year, on kudzu 6/20. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 19 in five U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 6/16 -- Soybean rust found again on kudzu in Leon County, FL. Kudzu leaves collected 6/7 were positive for soybean rust. Several leaves have older lesions, and the rust is relatively widespread in the 1/2 acre patch in the downtown commercial area of Tallahassee. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 18 in five U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 6/8 -- Soybean rust reappeared on kudzu in Mobile County, AL, 6/7. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 18 in five U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 6/6 -- Soybean rust found in FL & Chiapas, Mexico. Rust on kudzu in Lafayette County, FL. FL officials say at present 8 counties in state are positive, all on kudzu. Soybean rust was found in Mapastepec County, Chiapas, Mexico, in a 5-hectare plot of jicama 5/23. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 18 in five U.S. states; five municipalities in three Mexican states.

  • 5/29 -- Soybean rust found in FL, LA. Florida reports first soybean rust of the year in the Panhandle in Gadsden County today, 5% incidence on kudzu in a historically positive site. Louisiana reports soybean rust on kudzu in Iberia Parish, 5/27 (not yet marked on ipmPIPE observation map). Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 17 in five U.S. states; four municipalities in two Mexican states.

  • 5/27 -- UPDATE: Florida officials report that a recent survey of coral bean, kudzu, and the soybean sentinel plots in the panhandle of FL found no soybean rust. Temperatures are in the 80s,and the state has had regular rains. The kudzu is growing rapidly throughout FL.

  • 4/29 -- Asian soybean rust found on new host in U.S.: Erythrina herbacea, known as coral bean or Cherokee bean, in a known positive kudzu patch in Marion County, FL, week of 4/21.

  • 4/21 -- Soybean rust reappears on kudzu in Polk County, Texas. A trace amount was found on new growth in a kudzu sentinel site in the east-TX county. Rust was first found there 1/5, but was no longer found as recently as 3/22. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 16 in five U.S. states -- AL 1, FL 9, LA 2, MS 1, TX 3; four municipalities in two Mexican states -- Taumaulipas 3, Veracruz-Llave 1.

  • 4/14 -- On April 10, all green tissue from a soybean rust-infected kudzu vine in Mobile, AL, was removed. This was the only "known" rust-infected site in Alabama. At this time, the disease can only be found in Florida, where it is active on kudzu in six counties.

  • 3/3 -- More soybean rust in Florida: Lee County. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 16 in five U.S. states -- AL 1, FL 9, LA 2, MS 1, TX 3; four municipalities in two Mexican states -- Taumaulipas 3, Veracruz-Llave 1.

  • 2/21 -- Soybean rust found on kudzu in Duval County, FL, on both young and mature leaves in Jacksonville, Feb. 19. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 15 in five U.S. states; four municipalities in two Mexican states.

  • 2/11 -- Soybean rust found in additional state in Mexico: Veracruz-Llave, in the municipality of Papantla, with more also in Tamaulipas in Gonzalez municipality, both Feb. 5. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 14 in five U.S. states; four municipalities in two Mexican states.

  • 2/4 -- Soybean rust confirmed in second Mexican location: Feb. 1 in the municipality of El Mante in Tamaulipas, west of Altamira, where rust was found 1/14. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 14 in five U.S. states; two municipalities in one Mexican state.
  • 1/21 -- Soybean rust still present in Hidalgo County, Texas. Rust found 1/17 on remaining leaves of a field near Monte Alto known to be positive in the past. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 14 in five U.S. states; one municipality in one Mexican state.

  • 1/14 -- Soybean rust found in Tamaulipas, Mexico, in state of Altamira. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 13 in five U.S. states; one municipality in one Mexican state.

  • 1/14 -- Two more Florida counties with soybean rust: Jefferson and Leon. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 13 in five U.S. states.

  • 1/13 -- Soybean rust on kudzu in Mobile, Alabama, in Mobile County, is first in state this year. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 11 in five U.S. states.

  • 1/8: Ten counties with soybean rust so far in 2008. Nine are rust on kudzu, other is on snap beans and volunteer soybeans in Gadsden County, Fla. Total counties and parishes with rust in 2008: 10 in four U.S. states. They are: 4 in Florida (Gadsden 1/3 on snap beans, Hernando, Pasco and Alachua 1/4 on kudzu); 2 in Louisiana (St. Mary, Tangipahoa 1/4 on kudzu); 2 in Texas (Polk, Liberty 1/5 on kudzu); 1 in Mississippi (Bolivar 1/7 on kudzu.) U.S. total of positive counties and parishes in 2008: 10 in 4 states. (At this point in 2007, there were five positive counties in one state: Florida.)




  • Total U.S. soybean rust finds for 2007: -- 336 counties in 19 U.S. states. In 2007, soybean rust was reported in 19 States and 336 counties in the continental U.S including: 40 counties in Alabama (19 soybean), 33 counties in Arkansas (soybean), 24 counties in Florida (11 soybean), 53 counties in Georgia (14 soybean), four counties in Illinois (soybean), one county in Indiana (soybean), 14 counties in Iowa (soybean), nine counties in Kansas (soybean), three counties in Kentucky (soybean), 21 parishes in Louisiana (18 soybean), 26 counties in Mississippi (21 soybean), 37 counties in Missouri (soybean), four counties in Nebraska (soybean), six counties in North Carolina (soybean), 12 counties in Oklahoma (soybean), seven counties in South Carolina (soybean), seven counties in Tennessee (soybean), 26 counties in Texas (25 soybean), and nine counties in Virginia (soybean). Soybean rust also was detected in Hawaii, in one Province in Canada, and in two states in Mexico.
