KY, the Carolinas and S. VA thru the 16th. Wet weather in MW and along the Gulf Coast favorable for rust. Mobile teams to stay in the field.
>>NAPDFC Forecast 8/15/2005: Mon. & Tuesday -- Strongly Moderate Risk to S.E. MS, S. AL, S. GA, the FL panhandle and N. FL. Moderate Risk for S. and C. FL, C. AL, C. GA and C. and E. SC, esp. the southern counties. Low Risk otherwise.

+ Rust reaches South Carolina for the first time: Hampton County commercial field

As we reported at 8 o'clock last night on our site, soybean rust was confirmed in the southern part of South Carolina in a Hampton County commercial soybean field. This is the first confirmed rust in the state and becomes the northern-most county with rust in the country, just a bit north of Effingham County right across the border in Georgia.

8/12: Asian soybean rust was confirmed by PCR testing Friday for three more Florida counties: Taylor, Columbia and Hillsborough. That makes 18 Florida counties positive for rust, with half of those confirmations reported just during last week. See links below to stories about all nine new finds.

+ Baldwin County, AL, hit with rust in five locations; four commercial, one kudzu

8/11/2005 - Soybean rust was found in four new commercial soybean fields in Baldwin County, AL, on August 9, as well as in a kudzu patch for the first kudzu find this year in AL. The county now has five commercial fields infected.

Soybean ratings in yesterday's Crop Progress report from USDA held steady, with a one-point shift upward from good to excellent compared with last week. Pod set is 10 points ahead of this time last year, 89 percent vs. 79 percent.
